Jim Lukach is a writer from Milltown , New Jersey . Lost Inside the Happy Noise is his first book. His work has appeared in The New York Times , New Jersey Monthly Magazine and in online literary magazines. His academic achievements include making it through college in four years without ever taking a math course and dropping out of graduate school. Before leaving for Slovakia , he traveled across the United States for two months with three friends and is still haunted by that open road feeling that manifested itself recently in an attempted six day coast-to-coast-to-coast car trip. He got lost in Nebraska , somewhere on the Platte River .
Aside from living and traveling in Slovakia, he has also bummed around much of Central Europe—chased by Gypsy prostitutes in Budapest, napped in the shadow of the Joseph Conrad in Gdynia, Poland and spent days following his family ghosts in Vienna. But Slovakia is still the best.
He loves Ivan Klima, Cees Nooteboom and Peter Esterhazy.
